Ston and the Ston Walls: Europe's Great Wall on Pelješac
At the entrance to Pelješac stands one of the most impressive historical sites on the entire Adriatic. Ston – a town built and protected by the Republic of Dubrovnik as its most precious asset.
The Ston Walls, nearly 5.5 kilometres long, are Europe's largest defensive fortifications after the Great Wall of China. Built in the 14th century and now perfectly restored – you can walk their entire length and enjoy spectacular views over Mali Ston Bay.
What to See in Ston?
- Ston Walls – walking the walls is a must. Duration: about 1.5 hours. Tickets at the entrance.
- Salt Pans – Ston also has one of the oldest active salt pans in the Mediterranean, in operation for over 700 years.
- Oysters – Mali Ston Bay, visible from the walls, is home to the famous Ston oysters.
- Mali Ston – a peaceful village with restaurants specialising in shellfish, 2 km from Ston.
From Ston to Brijesta
After Ston, Pelješac invites you further. The drive to Brijesta takes about 25 minutes and takes you through vineyards, olive groves and a coastline that delights at every bend.
At Konoba Feral in Brijesta, we recommend the combination – morning at Ston and the walls, afternoon lunch at the konoba with fresh oysters and Pelješac wines. The perfect day on Pelješac.
"Pelješac is a small peninsula with a huge soul. Ston is its history. Brijesta is its present."
