Pelješac Wines: A Guide to Plavac Mali and Native Varieties

When you think of Pelješac, the first associations are sea and fish. But there is another side of this peninsula that equally defines its identity – wine.

Plavac Mali, Croatia's native variety, reaches its peak here. Steep stone vineyards facing the sea, the bura wind drying the grapes, Mediterranean sun – together these create conditions in which Plavac develops a power, structure and richness of flavour rarely found elsewhere.

Which Wines to Try on Pelješac?

  • Plavac Mali – dark red wine, full-bodied, with notes of dark fruit, spice and minerality. Ideal with peka, lamb and oily fish.
  • Pošip – fresh white wine from the island of Korčula, perfect with oysters and white fish.
  • Rukatac (Maraština) – aromatic white, a local favourite with Dalmatian starters.
  • Prč – a rare native variety, found only on Pelješac. If you find it – don't miss it.

Wine and Food at Konoba Feral

At Konoba Feral we offer carefully selected local wines that pair perfectly with our menu. Every dish has its ideal companion in the glass.

Our suggestion: fresh oysters – a chilled glass of Pošip. Lamb peka – a full glass of Plavac Mali. Fish platter – Rukatac or house white.

"Good wine does not compete with food. It is part of it."
